Some NASCAR stars can hit career highs in last two races
AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Let's face it: With two races to go, there are only two drivers who are competing for something truly meaningful. Jimmie Johnson leads Matt Kenseth by seven points in the championship Chase for the Sprint Cup, and all of the focus is on them.
But everyone else still has a chance to pad their stats before the season is over - especially for drivers such as Dale Earnhardt Jr., Clint Bowyer and Denny Hamlin - who haven't won yet.
Let's take a look at some notable stats that could still be achieved before the year is over:
-- Earnhardt is winless, but he could also cap one of his best seasons ever. Earnhardt currently has 20 top-10 finishes; his career-high is 21 (2003 and 2004).
-- Kasey Kahne hasn't won a pole position this season, which is a letdown by his standards. Last year, he won four poles and had won 10 in the three seasons before this one. Heading into this season, Kahne was tied with Jeff Gordon for the second-most poles (26) since he entered the sport in 2004.
-- If Johnson gets top-10 finishes in the final two races, he will tie a career-high with 24 top-10s. Johnson has recorded 24 top-10s in four previous seasons (2006, 2007, 2009 and 2012). He has titles in three of those years (2006, 2007, 2009).

-- Kyle Busch needs a top-five finish in either of the next two weeks to tie a career-high in both top-fives and top-10s. Busch has 16 top-fives and 20 top-10s; his career-bests are 17 and 21, respectively.
-- Three drivers - Jamie McMurray, Greg Biffle and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. - have been running at the finish of every Cup race this season. Can they finish the year without a DNF?
-- Kevin Harvick has 31 lead-lap finishes this year. His career-high is 32.
-- Marcos Ambrose has at least two top-five finishes in every year of his career, but doesn't have any this year. In 2011, he had five top-fives.
